I'm Sorry... Audio books

I'm having my first affair with the audio book.

And I like it, even if it does make me cheap and dirty.

At first I thought I was cheating on my lover the written word. Although now I do not think that is the case at all. Firstly, I started listening to audio books because my current job has some extremely mundane and repetitive tasks. Whilst this job is earning the bread and feeding my debtors I still felt like I was wasting precious training time*. So I found a copy of I am Legend in audio book form I had downloaded years ago and put it on my phone. Probably the abridged version, seeing it only took me a day to listen too.

But I found out then, I liked it. I was getting in more words in a day than usually possible and this is always a good thing.

Why I think it's good? I get to 'read' novels I would have never got the time too. Also, they are books I might not even put the effort to reading. Not they aren't really great novels, I... I just... I'm just not a very fast reader. I'm trying but there's not enough hours in the day at the moment.

What can make it bad? The voice. If the narrators voice isn't good the book cannot be listened too. Not at all. So, the books can be hit and miss. I'm very far from an expert on the audio book, but I would assume that the good ones narrate more than just a few books. So, I'll be finding a few different ones and keep you all posted.

I am currently listening to The Stand by Stephen King. The uncut version. It's a mammoth of a novel and it has a good narrator. I will be writing a review on this listening once it's completed.

Listen up and read up people. It's all out there waiting for you and there is enough time.

*Training - I have a few key ideas about what I call writer training, it includes Mr. King's theory of read a lot, write a lot. I'll be doing a write up on my idea of training in a few days.
